Currently there is know way to control tracing from eclipse. It would be useful to add a LTTng Trace Control Component to the LTTng integration in eclipse. The component shall enable the user to create and configure traces, start/stop/resume tracing as well as import of collected traces for further analysis by the LTTng integration.

LTTng Trace Control

LTTng Trace Control Contribution:

The LTTng Trace Control is based on TCF and RSE. This solution connects to a LTTng (TCF) agent on the target system that is provided by the LTTng project (see lttng.org). It provides the following tracing related features:

- retrieval of trace providers from agent (kernel or ust)
- retrieval of trace targets per provider
- retrieval of active and non-active traces per target
- creation of new traces
- configuration of trace markers per target
- configuration of traces and trace channels
- start, pause, resume and stop of a trace
- import of a trace to a LTTng tracing project
