Do you see the same problem if you just run the Eclipse SDK without any additional plug-ins. If the link reads fine in a web browser then the server is working fine and the problem would be in the Eclipse Browser widget or the XulRunner interface to Firefox. I see that you are using Ubuntu, what browser version do you have installed? Also do you see the problem opening help still if you change the Eclipse help preferences to open help in an external browser? Hi Chris, Tomorrow morning i will try these cases and provide those informations. The issue for the birt designer preview is solved by simply forcing the designer to use external browser. After that i changed the Help contents preferences and now it works. The problem is i can't say specifically which parameter i changed, because i can't break it again! I'm sorry for that. So Chris maybe right about eclipse browser widget or the XulRunner but for now i can't reproduce the error. Thanks. I've changed the resolution to WORKSFORME since there was no fix made to Eclipse. New day, same problem. A hour ago, i run my sts and in a moment, i realized that my web interfaces ('help contents', 'dynamic help', 'birt designer view/preview' options) of sts is not responding!
I tried to run sts with sudo, and it worked. So i tried to find the difference. In my user directory, under .grails, i have a ProxySettings.groovy file, which doesn't exist under /root/.grails. So i moved it but no luck. The proxy settings of IDE are both same for with sudo and without sudo.
I am suspecting that it is the proxy settings but i modified in all levels:
- System wide: System-> Preference-> Network Proxy
- SpringSource Tool Suite proxy settings
- Grails proxy settings under user directory : ~/.grails/ProxySettings.groovy
For now, i'm still investigating the reason, because i don't want to run it as sudo without knowing the reason.
I'm updating this thread so maybe other people can face with the same situation, and i will continue to do...
OS:Ubuntu 10.04 - 2.6.32-30
STS: 2.5.2.SR1
P.S. i'm feeding another feed in the birt-exchange.org:

UPDATE - 2 I decided that my case is a specific one. So it is not a bug anymore in my opinion. UPDATE-3 Just a workaround; when i restart my PC by disabling the system proxy, and set the proxy again after it starts, the problem doesn't exist anymore. so this is exactly a proxy related issue.
