Description Benjamin Muskalla CLA 2011-04-18 19:37:08 EDT
Depending on the use-case, we may want to investigate a new layout of focused diagrams. This may involve layouting based on the current interest and landmark of the model elements.

See bug 343220. Carries some of the same issues, though could be more workable for those diagram tools that already have some mechanism for assigning relationship (edge) importance level/ranking for auto-layout. For example in some graph layout programs such as graphvis the auto-layout is based on the order and type of relationships between nodes. But Zest doesn't support this in any of their layout algorithms, and I'd be a bit surprised if other Eclipse hosted tools did. This task should probably go in the "nice to have" heap unless there is a really compelling use case.

Let's have some feedback on this one. If people are interested in seeing it move forward we're going to have to think through it quite a bit.

I think everyone is pretty much agreed that the current solution trumps any layout based solution. Feel free to reopen if anyone would like to revisit.
