If the notification view pops up with new incoming tasks, I can click on the "Incoming" icon to mark the task as read.

Naturally, I would expect the same behaviour for the incoming markers in the Task List view, but only for the single tasks
to avoid mousing errors marking a complete query as read.

Sounds like something we should try but I would like to see undo support for marking tasks read first to have a simple way to recover from accidental clicks (bug 337999).

We don't have plans to implement this enhancement at the moment. That said, we'd be happy to support resolving this request through a contribution.
