Description Paresh verma CLA 2011-04-12 19:18:14 EDT
Build Identifier: M20110210-1200

The dialog box at the starting of a new java project is not able to display the whole set of properties. The same problem exists for some other kind of projects also (like web project offered by google), but is not there in some like that of Android project.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open File > New > Java Project
2.Some of the properties cant be set since they are visually unreachable.
3.For systems with large display, try reducing the dialog's length to see the problem.

Screen shot of reduced size dialog box

Lower properties are inaccessible due to absence of scroll bars.

Some of the properties still seem to be inaccessible.

The dialog should come up with the right size. Are you saying that when you choose
File > New > Java Project
it already appears too small as shown in attachment 193106 [details]?

You mean your screen is not high enough to show everything?

Partly yes. What i meant to say is that most of the build project dialog boxes are not able to show the entire details, some of the information is visually hidden and cant be seen. Scroll bars should have been present to access the details present at the lower end of the form.

The smaller sized attachment just glorifies the fact that the whole information is not visible if the dialog size is not sufficient to accommodate the same as a whole in one shot.

Either the dialog is entirely visible when you open it via File > New > Java Project or it is not. What is the case?

If it's not completely visible: what screen resolution and (dialog) font do you use?

The dialog is entirely visible. The problem i faced is that the contents inside the dialog are not entirely visible.
As in the reduced dialog attachment, you can see that the dialog is visible as a whole but some part of the details/options inside it are not accessible.
(compare the two attachments, you will see that in the reduced one lower part of info is not accessible by any means)

What's your screen resolution and dialog font (including size)?

screen resolution: 1366 X 768
dialog font: sans (10)

I dont think that such points should be considered. Details inside the dialog box should be accessible for any settings.

Two more questions:

(1) Does this happen on a fresh workspace?
(2) Does this happen on any stable builds like 3.6.2?

yes, it happens on fresh workspace also.
I intended to file this bug for 3.6.2 only, dont know how it got changed. Extremely sorry for that.

However I checked version 3.5.2, on my friend's system and found that the same issue exists.

I think I have not been able to explain the issue correctly. The new java project opens up in a dialog box, which displays the contents based on its size. So if the size is decreased, the lower part of the information/properties/form can not be filled/accessed. The attachments should have clarified this as the "reduced" attachment shows the same dialog box as in "best possible size" attachment, but with the length reduced. Clearly, no scroll bars exists on the sides which could be used to scroll down the box to access the lower part of the form for filling out details.

This problem doesn't exists with the new Android Project dialog box (scroll bars have been provided there).

I hope my stand is clear.

Ok. Now I get it.

Just to make sure I got it right too:
1. The dialog comes up right i.e. everything is visible
(at least it does for me with 1366 X 768, 10pt)
2. When you resize, parts of the dialog content gets hidden

exactly....
and i suspect that even in the best possible case too, some part of the form is inaccessible.
