If you enable "insert spaces for tabs" (right click on editor -> general -> editors -> text editors) and then instantiate a template that contains tabs, then those tabs are not replaced by spaces.

The preference does not have the effect that spaces are "replaced" by tabs, but rather that they are inserted. This means if you enable the option "insert spaces for tabs" and open an Xtend file, the existing tabs are left untouched. But if you would press a tab, spaces are inserted instead.

Also the autoformat does respect the setting.

I consider this as working as expected. Please reopen if I missed something.
