Description Andy Thomas-Cramer CLA 2011-03-15 16:34:02 EDT
Build Identifier: 3.6.2M20110210

This empty label is a minor defect. However, for our RCP applications, there was a little concern about user perception of the quality of the software.

Given:
* Running on a Mac
* Intentionally lacking the plug-in org.eclipse.ui.browser.

Observed:
* The "Open help contents" label has nothing underneath it.

Expected:
* Either the label corresponds to something nearby (as it does on Windows), or is omitted.

Notes:
* If the org.eclipse.ui.browser plug-in is included, then the preferences page "General>Web Browser" appears and is linked to by the "Open help contents" label.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run on a Mac
2. Omit the plug-in org.eclipse.ui.browser
3. Open the Preferences dialog
4. Navigate to "Help" preferences

I just tried starting the Eclipse SDK ( on Windows ) without the org.eclipse.ui.browser bundle and the help preference page displayed correctly. Have you seen the same problem on other platforms or does it only happen on the Mac?

It only happens on a Mac. Works fine on Windows, as you noticed.

Fixed, on the Mac the "Open help contents" preference should never show since help contents always opens in an external browser and there is no choice to present to the user.
