Everytime I try edit preferences, the following error is displayed preventing me for changing settings.

Unable to create the selected preference page.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch eclipse 
2. Window > Preferences > Java > Compiler
3. Message: "An error has occurred when creating this preference page."

I have no idea what could be causing this. It looks like the Apache xalan code is calling an org.w3c method that does not exist.

This can be closed. The resolution was to reinstall eclipse and JDK.
