The fix is pushed to the repo. In our launch conf, there is -Dorg.eclipse.orion.server.core.projectsWorldReadable=false. When changed to 'true', projects will become world readable.

Thanks Szymon. We can leave bug 337001 open for post-M6 to deal with a longer term solution (such as a flag on project creation to let user decide if the project is public).
