If you add a new function to a plugin, all users must manually clear their localStorage before that function will be available. We need some better way of detecting that a plugin has changed so users don't have this manual step.

I'll take this and might even see if we can we do something about this as we change to using preferences in M6. Detecting a difference is something we need to handle but short term I would expect we can reset our preferences instead of clearing localstorage which might have unintended consequences.
