The plugin org.eclipse.jdt.ui has recently been upgraded to using 
Java 5 generics. This requires a few of our plug-ins to adapt, 
because OT/J method bindings expect exact type matches.

proposed fix

This should do the trick. No surprises so far, but many fewer warnings to
suppress. Better typing even obsoletes two cases of explicit lowering.
