Description pawell.piskorski CLA 2011-03-03 06:37:51 EST
This happens to me often when I type 'template<' and find out that It actually says 'template<<'. The reason is that, apparently, in quick typing I tend to release shift before '<' key in which case the editor inserts another < when the key goes up.
It seems to be like this in every text edit component. It certainly happens in code editor, but also in this bug-filling text box, etc.

How did you file the bug (via Eclipse UI or browser)?

. I used the bug reporting tool in eclipse (Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Developers, Helios SR1, build id 20100917-0715). As mentioned this seem to affect any Text GUI component, including code editor.
. I am also able to reproduce this effect on Eclipse 3.5.2/Linux.
. It doesn't reproduce on Windows + Helios Service Release 2 Build id: 20110218-0911

The easiest reproduction scenario I can think of is:
1. run Eclipse
2. go to Window/Preferences
3. in text filter text box quickly:
    a. press and hold SHIFT key,
    b. press and hold '<' key, "<" appears in the text box
    c. release SHIFT key,
    d. release '<' key, "<<" appears in text box
Result I observe is "<<" string in the edit box, while I expect "<"

I cannot reproduce this issue against SWT from master as of today, GTK3.22, and Fedora 28.
