When I generate a report in PPT format the image and table are there, but when I open it in power point the slide is "very" long. By default the page is opened with 10% zoom and only this way it fits in one's screen.
I would expect to have a "normal" sized slide

Could you please attach your report design for us to investigate? I can not reproduce this issue in most reports.

Please note that problem with PPT is system wide problem with all reports I have and not only this one.

The setting of your masterpage size is custom type with width: 740 pixels, height: 10000 pixels.

With this width and height setting, the output of ppt/pdf is correct. Please change the masterpage size to correct value.

Where do I change this setting?

The pages were developed by a freelance agent and I'm not aware of these settings.

Can I simply remove <property name="height">10000px</property> ?

I don't want to control the height of the page.
I want it to be automatic according to the size of the chart and the table with data.

If the master page type is custom, you will have to set the height value.
You could set the master page type as default value: US letter.
You can find it from: Masterpage -> property editor -> General -> Type
