I have a git repository with a push URL to point to a file on a drive

[remote "example"]
  url = file:///c/temp/example.git

Command line Git will allow me to push/fetch from it, but it shows up in EGit as 'URI not supported: file:///c/temp/example.git'

Is there any reason that file URLs aren't supported in this format?

I think this has been fixed (in JGit) some time ago, please reopen if problem still exists.
