If you annotate an artifact in a project, the annotation gets stored in the .metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.tigerstripe.espace.resources/defaultStorage.xml file rather than the .ann file in the project.

Ha !

That was the issue I raised before.
Whre I had annotations but no annotations files.
