Description Eike Stepper CLA 2011-02-02 02:09:06 EST
My users complain that my builds are no longer twittered since September. I understand that we don't want to introduce the previous instabilities. Nevertheless I think build notification is an important feature of a transparent process. How can we get the Twitter plugin back?

I recall there is now a Hudson sandbox for testing plugins. I somebody using it (I don't)? Is Twitter being tested there?

+1 to testing the twitter plugin on the sandbox.

Eike, is there a job of yours I can copy to the sandbox so we can test the plugin?

Hi Matt,

You could try to copy https://hudson.eclipse.org/hudson/job/emf-cdo-integration/ . Of course the Twitter plugin is not enabled.

Cheers

Ok, I've copied the emf-cdo-integration to the slave. I've also installed the twitter plugin there so it can be tested.

Eike, can you login to sandbox and help me test things?

Aside from any potential stability issues this may create, I've been unable to determine how to set the twitter details 'per job'. The docs indicate it's possible, but I'm not seeing it.

I see what you mean. There used to be more settings, something like twitter account and password. I already wondered when I looked at the twitter settings on the production Hudson. I thought they were missing because the plugin is deactivated. Is it not?

I have no clue where the missing settings are gone ;-(

The only place I see any settings for Twitter in terms of credentials is in the core Hudson config. But that only seems to allow for a single set of credentials I don't see any option to allow per job or per user settings.

I've also taken a look at the outstanding issues for this plugin and there is one that looks 'bad' at least based on our setup: http://issues.hudson-ci.org/browse/HUDSON-6995 . While there aren't a lot of open bugs I'm wondering if this plugin is still being actively maintained.

According to http://issues.hudson-ci.org/browse/HUDSON/component/15584 a number of issues had been fixed some weeks ago, which makes me think that the plugin is supposed to work in general. The specific problem report you pointed out does not necessarily be caused by a bug in that plugin. But who knows...

First we should find out how to configgure the plugin properly but unfortunately I still have no clue ;-(

We won't deploy the Twitter plugin on any global instance. If your project has a HIPP instance, we could consider enabling it there if it doesn't pose a risk for system security.
