Beginning from a Maven project, I used the Create Module wizard and the resulting pom has warnings for duplicated version and groupId.

probably only possible to influence when no archetypes are involved. archetypes will always create groupid/version

done for "simple maven project" option. for archetypes we would need to create some sort of post-processing jobs that  would iterate all project created by the archetype and update them, IMHO not worth the effort.
