On the mac, change the keyboards to French (or someother lang that has dead keys). Select some text, type an accent and a vowel.
On Safari the vowel is entered without the accent (the dead key clears the selection but is completed ignored after that).
On Firefox the vowel is entered with the accent, but pre edit accent is never shown.

Dead keys work when there is no selection.
