In the merge dialogue it can be confusing to a new user whether you are merging 'from' or 'to'. Maybe changing the wording such that it reads: 

"Select a branch or a tag other than the currently checked out branch or tag, that you want to merge from."

I am still a "new user" so maybe it is "to"? - I am still a little confused.
