On an instance diagram..

If you create an entity, you cannot create assciations to other elements by drag and drop.

Selecting the itemn does not enable the "handles" that allow you to drag connections.

(Note you can get ass=ociations using the "Add related instances.." menu option.

Richard, as discussed I'm unable to reproduce this issue.  This is also working in our profiles.  Please try it out on our I27 profile, if it works, we'll assume something suspicious in your development environment. Thanks!

I now get the handles, and can create the associations
