I've installed eclipse and the jdk on my computer. Eclipse starts up fine, but when i create a new java project all that shows up in the package explorer is 
ExampleProject
   src 
   jre system library[javaSE-1.6].
there is no java file created to write any code. Any Ideas? help is much appreciated.

That is right, after creating the project you can create a new class from 'File > New > Class'.
