Based on JPA 2.0 spec, section 4.8.6, page 165, Double takes precedence, then Float, BigDecimal, BigInteger, etc. But in BasicTypeHelperImpl.extendedBinaryNumericPromotion(), BigDecimal takes precedence over Double, then BigInteger (if the other number is not Float). So the promotion is not the same as what the spec says.

1. Go and look at the code in BasicTypeHelperImpl
