Should be doable by passing a status with an empty message to DebugUITools#openLaunchConfigurationDialogOnGroup(..., IStatus) and then implementing the selection in a status handler.

I cc'd Mike and Pawel so they are aware of the small change to platform debug.

It wasn't immediately obvious to me what needed to change in the platform, but I see that the filter text steals focus after the tabs are initialized (preventing PDE from giving focus to a specific element).

+1 Fixed in HEAD.
