Bug 331919

Summary: [Commands] Cut and Copy on Edit menu are enabled for empty text fields
Product: [Eclipse Project] Platform Reporter: Eleanor Joslin <ejj-eclipsebugs>
Component: UIAssignee: Platform UI Triaged <platform-ui-triaged>
Status: CLOSED WONTFIX QA Contact:
Severity: normal
Priority: P3 CC: daniel_megert, hsoliwal, pwebster
Version: 3.1
Target Milestone: ---
Hardware: All
OS: All
Whiteboard: stalebug

Description Eleanor Joslin CLA 2010-12-06 11:00:11 EST
Build Identifier: M20100909-0800

The clipboard actions Cut and Copy are enabled on the Edit menu (but not the context menu) when the cursor is in an empty text field, for example in the filter box in the Error Log view.

The RCP apps I work on put these actions on the coolbar, where it is more conspicuous that they are enabled inappropriately.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go into the Error Log view.
2. Delete all text from the filter box and place the cursor there.
3. Look at the Edit menu. Cut and Copy are enabled.

The steps in comment 0 were just an example. The problem is in Platform UI (org.eclipse.ui.internal.handlers.WidgetMethodHandler).

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
