Description Paul Austin CLA 2010-11-29 11:52:23 EST
Build Identifier: 20100917-0705

After Apple updated Java to the following version Eclipse seems to regularly hang on Initializing Java Tooling (30%) (Resetting source attachment properties.).

java version "1.6.0_22"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_22-b04-307-10M3261)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 17.1-b03-307, mixed mode)

I have downloaded a clean install of Helios and am still having the problems.

In terms of plugins I have the latest m2eclipse and subversive plugins installed.

I have tried the following which works for a while but then stops working.

http://tekkie.flashbit.net/flash/how-to-fix-fdt-or-any-other-eclipse-based-ide-after-mac-os-x-10-6-3-upgrade

I've also tried deleting the workspace and re-importing my projects and doing an eclipse -clean which sometimes works but is a pain to do virtually every other day.

There are no errors in the log file
Paul

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Eclipse
2.Do anything
3. Wait for ever on Initializing Java Tooling

See bug 241343 and bug 327801.
Comment 2 Paul Austin CLA 2010-11-29 12:36:33 EST
I tried the dropin patch from bug 327801, but it did not seem to fix the problem. Is there any workspace cleanup I should do before trying the patch?

Get a thread dump when Eclipse is hung. That may offer insight on what it's stuck on.

It looks like this hang can happen for other Java applications and is not actually solely tied to Eclipse.
