Unrendering the shared area works if there are multiple perspectives but attempting to do so if there's only a single perspective will cause all of its child elements to be unrendered (as there aren't any other rendered placeholders pointing at the shared area).

Eric, did you have something in mind for this kind of model manipulation?

I talked to Eric yesterday and the solution is to use MUIElement's setVisible(boolean) method.

Fix has been released to HEAD.

Verified by source inspection with I20110125-2200 on Windows XP that the code changes are there.
