When i am opening a report and trying to convert it to PDF format, it is not converting rather it is asking to save the file and then should open it to view the report and hangs on like that. Can any one help me on this please. Its a serious issue.

Reproducible: Always

1.Open up a report
2.Click on the pdf icon to convert it to .pdf
3.Then it is asking to save the file rather than converting it to pdf.

Have you installed Adobe Reader on your client machine?

Could you please check your Adobe Reader preference settings? (see attached screenshot)

This issue only exists on windows7 + IE8 + pdf, and it's not a BIRT specific issue. It's a common pdf document issue on windows 7.

Please see adobe forum: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2047360#2047360
The possible workaround from forumns are:
1. user Fireforx
2. change settings to do NOT open pdf in the browser
3. add the site to trusted sites of IE.

Set as NOT_ECILPSE.
