Description Eike Stepper CLA 2010-11-18 01:16:26 EST
The yellow icon that appears on hovering a user ID field of the Bugzilla editor (assignee, QA contact) is very renitent. It easily disappears when leaving the field with the mouse, which is expectable and acceptable.

What makes it really annoying is the fact that the area where the icon itself is supposed to appear does *not* react to hovering at all. As I already know where the icon would appear I usually start moving with the mouse in exactly this area, resulting in the icon not appearing. Even when carefully approaching the mose cursor from the left it often happens that I leave the narrow field bounds by accident and the closer I get to the final icon position the harder it becomes to finally hit it. Often it disappears just when I thought "now I can click it". It reminds me to the popular game where you have to hit a (virtual!) mole with a hammer before it can disappear into the ground again :P

I remember that we had a difficult time with the mouse event processing on Windows when we first implemented this. Sounds like this is still not working optimally. Shawn, can you reproduce the described problem?

patch

Yes, I do see this. It seems that the problem may be related to some timing from the windows side and when actions are fired. The patch that I am attaching makes the behavior much better and more determininstic on my machine, but I wonder if it would improve the situation for anyone else. I think that this is related to the order of events for mouse enter and exit and what happens when the link is displayed when hovering over it.

Mylyn has been restructured, and our issue tracking has moved to GitHub [1].

We are closing ~14K Bugzilla issues to give the new team a fresh start. If you feel that this issue is still relevant, please create a new one on GitHub.
