Bug 327732

Summary: [Navigator] On linux, after operation in navigator view focus not returned to current file or folder
Product: [Eclipse Project] Platform Reporter: Jeffrey Wexler <bsgcic1776>
Component: UIAssignee: Platform UI Triaged <platform-ui-triaged>
Status: CLOSED WONTFIX QA Contact:
Severity: normal
Priority: P3 CC: remy.suen
Version: 3.5.2
Target Milestone: ---
Hardware: PC
OS: Linux
Whiteboard: stalebug

Description Jeffrey Wexler CLA 2010-10-14 01:06:24 EDT
Build Identifier: 20100218-1602

System is ubuntu 10.04 amd 64bit os on a hp touchsmart tx2 laptop with cpu amd Turion X2 64.
When performing tasks in the navigator view, the focus is usually not returned to the current file or folder that was acted upon (e.g., after changing a file name). Instead the focus is returned to the folder at the very top of the navigator view thereby requiring the user to click on the next file or folder rather than being able to simply press the down arrow key, for example, to move the the subsequent file. This is an issue specific to linux because focus is returned to the current control in the windows version.
I suggest that this is a normal bug rather than a minor bug because this significantly impairs productivity when there are a large number of activities to be performed on files within the navigator view.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Click on a file within the navigator
2.Press f2 and change the file name and click ok to save the change
3.

Is this only a problem for the 'Navigator' view? What about the 'Project Explorer' view?

Is this still a problem with Eclipse 3.6.1?

Project explorer appears ok. I renamed a file and the focus remained on the current control.

I have not checked 3.6.1. My work depends on the JBoss tools integration with eclipse as well as ZeroTurnaround's JRebel (at least until open source tools like jboss and eclipse can provide the equivalent of jrebel).

I just checked the JBoss tools download page and see that they have not arrived at a stable release for eclipse 3.6.x yet. Thus, I cannot migrate yet.

Anyone out there already using 3.6.x amd 64bit who can do this quick check?

Thanks,
Jeff

I needed to use helios for something and thus just downloaded it. The bug exists on helios also.
Version: Helios Service Release 1

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
