I've been unable to track down what exactly trigger this issue (image attached)

Darting in and out of PHP code seems to be the main trigger, writing continuous code seems ok.

The script isn't marked as having a syntax error (no red or yellow sqaure in top right corner)

When the file is closed and re-opened the highlighting is fixed.

I have this bug also in all 2.2.1 versions with latest updated eclipse , is there workaround or fix ? I can reproduce it always.

Did you use latest stable PDT. I did not find way to not reproduce it.

if you find any valid example that can help us resolve this please attach this issue and reopen it. currently we can't reproduce it.

Not reporduced in PDT.
