It should be possible to create a new branch based on a given commit-ID. Currently I can only create a new branch based on already existing branch. Additionally I also cannot reset to a certain commit-ID. I can only reset to a given branch/tag.

To reproduce: Try to create a new branch in JGit which is based on the exisiting commit 590a9f9. Or try to reset a certain branch to commit 590a9f9.

Both branch creation and reset is available from the context menu of the history view. This has been there for a while, so you man need to upgrade your EGit version to 0.9 or later.
Please do not hesistate to reopen if this doesn't address your issue.
