See bug 325342 which adds a new compiler option (enabled/disabled - default disabled) to suppress null warnings arising because of assert statements. 

The new option has to be added in Java>Compiler>Errors/warnings, preferably in a new option group with these 3 options together - 
Null pointer access
Potential Null Pointer access
Redundant null check

Fixed in HEAD.
Available in builds >= N20100930-2000.
