Description Robert Munteanu CLA 2010-09-09 18:13:50 EDT
In the MantisBT connector, we often get support requests from users which are hitting repository configuration problems. The repository settings page provides little space in the header display for a longer message, which would include a hyperlink to a wiki page. Also there is no easy way to contribute a link to the page, other than the 'Additional settings' section, which is collapsed by default.

I would welcome either the possibility to send HTML content to the message area in the header, or to register an additional Hyperlink , alongside 'Create new account' and 'Change account settings'.

Agreed that there should be a way to provide more detailed feedback (see bug 276385). Have you considered overriding AbstractRepositorySettingsPage.applyValidatorResult() to show a dialog? You could also add a custom message widget by overriding createAdditionalControls().
Comment 3 Robert Munteanu CLA 2010-09-12 15:26:56 EDT
1) Yes, I can ( and probably will ) show a dialog, but I'm not entirely happy with that choice.
2) The best I can do in createAdditionalControls() is to place a hyperlink below the Additional Settings section, and it seems quite out of place.

hyperlink placed below the additional settings section
Comment 5 Steffen Pingel CLA 2010-10-27 04:40:45 EDT
Agreed, that's not optimal. Can you propose an API change that would enable the extensibility you require?
Comment 6 Robert Munteanu CLA 2010-10-27 17:21:31 EDT
My use case is simple, so I would need nothing more than

bc.
registerExternalHyperlink(String title, URL destination);
Comment 7 Robert Munteanu CLA 2010-10-27 17:21:53 EDT
The above refers to AbstractRepositorySettingsPage , of course.
