It could be useful if the task bar icon showed a decoration that denotes overall build status, similar to the decoration on the view icon.

Maybe it would be a good idea to have a (Mylyn Commons) notification sink for this?

Interesting suggestion, that could work for notifications that require immediate attention, e.g. restart prompts. Not sure if this would be a good API for stateful notifications, e.g. for showing the number of failed builds.
