Description Chris Goldthorpe CLA 2010-09-01 18:00:44 EDT
M20100901-0800

From M20100901-0800 I launched a new instance of Eclipse, opened a few views so that I have the Help, Cheat Sheets, Welcome and Console Views showing. I went to the samples page and clicked on the button to install the first sample. After hitting OK/Yes to the two dialogs, "The samples are not installed ... " and the dialog about unsigned content the work bench went into a strange state where I would switch views between the four visible tabs but not close any view or open the show view dialog. An NPE was thrown whenever I switched views, see attached log.

I have only seen this when launching a new workbench from Eclipse, I don't know it it could in a single instance of Eclipse.

From the stack trace it looks like org.eclipse.core.internal.runtime.Activator.singleton is null. This is strange, it would seem that the org.eclipse.equinox.common bundle got stopped for some reason. Or it never started in your scenario.
Comment 3 John Arthorne CLA 2010-09-02 11:12:36 EDT
Maybe installing the sample is causing a bundle refresh and the equinox common bundle is restarted.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
