This may be related to bug 303770.  I defined a class using @Inheritance(strategy=InheritanceType.SINGLE_TABLE) and 
@DiscriminatorColumn(discriminatorType=DiscriminatorType.INTEGER) but the generated SQL insists on treating the discriminator column as a string.  Discussion begins with message #390043 and testcase will be attached.
