Looking at the patch, what you are doing seems to make sense.  I will need to test this with our proprietary stuff to make sure it doesn't mess that up.  We won't have a version of that that works with Indigo for a while though, so I don't think we should hold this up any longer.  I would say check this in, and if we need to fix things later when we move our product up to Indigo, we'll do so.
