In the Eclipse 4.0 SDK, the annotation bar and breakpoint bar are white, rather than the expected gray background.  This makes it hard to see where the editable area actually begins when there are no breakpoints or annotations.

This use of white was a product of the implementation, not a specific decision.
However, Linda (visual designer) kind of likes it.  She also mentioned that the gray in the original mockups was chosen simply because that was the old color, and we had not drilled down into thinking about what would be best.

This bug tracks the design work for doing mockups to determine what we should be doing.  In the meantime, we will likely leave it white.

I came to post a bug about the lack of visibility of annotations on the gray annotation bar background in Eclipse SDE 3.5.1. This is especially true of the light blue and yellow. Typically the problem exists for any highlight annotation box filled with color (as opposed to a colored frame around the text) because the fill color is usually a light color.

This bug was the only bug found with the keywords "annotation color". 

I'm glad the background will be white in 4.0 -- this will ameliorate the problem. But it won't fix it completely; annotations will still be hard to see because of their small size. How about making the annotations slightly more saturated (brighter?) than the fill boxes highlighting the text in the main display?

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
