While I'm fairly certain I know which one you're talking about, no one likes to "guess" what a user is talking about, hence I asked for explicit clarification. Please provide additional context. > > And then what happens? > > I get an error message saying eclipse can't find its companion shared library. What version of Java do you have installed? What is the name of your setup executable? What version of Eclipse did you download? What is its name? Are you on a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 installation? (In reply to comment #3) > That doesn't answer my question. It's probably the one your thinking about. I can't find the original bug on bugzilla. > What version of Java do you have installed? Java 6 update 21 (64-bit) but the bug doesn't go away if I install Java 6 update 20. > What is the name of your setup executable? Don't know what that is. > What version of Eclipse did you download? What is its name? Eclipse Classic 3.6.0. It's called Helios. > Are you on a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 installation? 64-bit (In reply to comment #4) > It's probably the one your thinking about. I can't find the original bug on > bugzilla. "Probably" is not good enough. As I implied before, assuming what another person is thinking of is not the way to provide assistance. Consider how many people would be dead if they weren't explicit about their symptoms with their doctors. > > What version of Java do you have installed? > Java 6 update 21 (64-bit) but the bug doesn't go away if I install Java 6 > update 20. If it _was_ the bug that I was thinking of, downgrading to 6u20 would have solved the problem. That particular problem also has nothing to do with shared libraries. > > What is the name of your setup executable? > Don't know what that is. When you downloaded a Java runtime from wherever, I'm guessing it was some .exe installer file. Maybe it's a zip file and you just unzipped it, I don't know. In any case, what is this file's name? > > What version of Eclipse did you download? What is its name? > Eclipse Classic 3.6.0. It's called Helios. What is the name of the file? In continuing the mind-reading thing maybe this statement "But the instructions for fixing that bug didn't work for me." was trying to tell us that Yosh followed the steps at http://wiki.eclipse.org/FAQ_How_do_I_run_Eclipse%3F#Oracle.2FSun_VM_1.6.0_21_on_Windows If he happened to pick choice three then a dll is indeed part of the game. But all this will remain pure mind reading and guess work until Yosh describes much more specifically what he did and what error he observed. OTOH, since the jdk 1.6.0_u21 bug is resolved (when using the latest update from Oracle), it would be interesting to know, whether the problem occurs even on a pristine new install without any workarounds applied. (In reply to comment #6) >http://wiki.eclipse.org/FAQ_How_do_I_run_Eclipse%3F#Oracle.2FSun_VM_1.6.0_21_on_Windows That's the bug I was referring to. I got my java from http://java.com/en/download/chrome.jsp?locale=en&host=java.com:80 This has nothing to do with JDT/Core. Moving to Platform/Runtime Please post a copy of your eclipse.ini file along with the output of running "java -version" in a command prompt. Thanks. This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant. As such, we're closing this bug. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it and reopen this bug.
