Drop-down list is better. The small icon at the right-hand corner is more convinence than click hot-key. Please don't remove it. -1 You guys must work in a single WorkbenchWindow. For those of us with 5 windows open, the drop down is useless. Please see bug #31564 on how to turn this functionality back on. Randy, the dropDown did let you see editors from all Windows. It did not, however, tell you which window the individual editors were in. Oh, for heaven's sake, quit screwing around with this. We have had a new way to navigate between editors in every other build. Those blasted tabs are useless and I don't see anyone taking those away. Consider this a vote for the dropdown and for not churning the UI with every breeze. Which "blasted tabs" are useless, Bob? I agree about changing the UI so much at this stage though. The editor list drop-down had some major usability problems, and will not be coming back for 2.1. We will be revisiting editor management for 2.2. As Andrew indicated above, the code is still in there and can be reenabled using the steps in bug 31564, however this is not a supported feature of Eclipse 2.1. It's should be left or atleast have it as non-default setting so someone needing it can use it. I definitely vote for it to be retained. Agreed that: - The tabs are useless as soon as you have more than 4 editors - The Editors View is nice. I am getting tired of re-activating it each time I upgrade :-) I don't agree that tabs are useless when you've got more than 4 editors. Admittedly the filename gets truncated pretty quickly, but you can help that by getting rid of the icon on the tab - it requires a patch which I've only got for RC1 but which should easily be portable to RC3 if anyone's interested. Currently the icons can carry useful information such as decorations for compilation errors and warnings. Also, other products like WSAD benefit from showing the icons since in J2EE you often have multiple files with the same base name. So always hiding the icon and extension would not be a good solution. A preference would be a possibility, but we'd like it to work well with the out-of-the-box settings. We'd have to investigate other options to handle the cases above. For example, colouring the tab text in red if there is an error. As mentioned above, we will be revisiting this for 2.2. *** Bug 35749 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 35749 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 35274 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** There is a trial version of the drop down list editor available in a branch stream right now. You can see instructions on how to get this if you follow the steps in comment #45 for bug 37997. Not marking as fixed until this is in HEAD. Two editor modes are supported now: Editor drop down list with a single tab is supported as well as multiple editor tabs. |
