This can result in hanging IDE, for example when the network cable is pulled during a HTTP clone operation.
We might want to have a general timeout setting somewhere in the Git Preferences or we could decide to add a field in the wizard which is pre-filled with a useful default.
Note that specifically for HTTP, there is JGit change

It turned out we have this problem in all "remote" operations.
