The check button 
"ontact all update sites during install to find required software"
appears under “Available Software” but there seems to be no way to save the setting if I want to “cancel” out of the dialog without doing anything real (eg.  Add  a site, etc.). To be more exact, if I “cancel” out and come back in, the box is unchecked, but I still see the update site (http://download.eclipse.org.eclipse/updates/3.5/content.xml) is accessed in the Progress view.
It seems that I can manually cancel this (it takes a while but finally I see “No operations to display at this time.), but at this point, some UI becomes irresponsive
(for example, if I try to add a local installation site, then OK button doesn’t work).

For some reason, I only see this problem with Galileo (Helios on the same system works fine), but please add the entry to Preferences anyway. Thanks.

As you noted, in Helios the checkbox settings are always remembered.  In Galileo, they were not, and this was inconvenient as you've noticed.  So the fix was to make the setting stick.  Given the behavior is correct in the current release, why do you suggest adding this checkbox to the preferences?  

In general we are trying to move away from putting things in preferences that are only used in one context.  We would always want to keep the checkbox in the wizard, because this is where the user makes the decision.  For example, if the checkbox is not checked and there are missing requirements, I want to check the box then and there and try again to install.

OK. If this is the case, we can close this issue.

If the ability to contact all sites gets a broader meaning in the future (ie, this setting is consulted in other places) we would revisit the issue.
