I created a new project, populated it, configures Team Share for it to allow me to check it in for the first time to our CVS repository. It failed with a cryptic error message about an "Unhandled event loop exception" Google searchs reveal no clue what this is all about. Stack trace follows -

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Not sure, try creating a new web project
2. Set Team Share to add to CVS repository
3. Check in the new project

Do you have a ton of files and folders to commit? Sounds like bug 299538.

Yep, same bug!  And the workaround mentioned worked for me. So go ahead and mark this as a duplicate.
