We discussed improving the flash mechanism to asynchronously flash the current error decoration (standard or border) instead of the widget background.

Implementation notes:

- flashing must not change the marker state of the widget, just the decoration on the control
- depending on the state, the flash sequence is on-off or off-on
- after the asynochrous flash the decoration must be set to the state that is appropriate now (may have changed during the flash)
