Bug 318956

Summary: Expanding a node in variables slow and no progress
Product: [Eclipse Project] JDT Reporter: Martin Aeschlimann <martinae>
Component: DebugAssignee: JDT-Debug-Inbox <jdt-debug-inbox>
Status: CLOSED WONTFIX QA Contact:
Severity: major
Priority: P3 CC: darin.eclipse
Version: 3.6
Target Milestone: ---
Hardware: PC
OS: Windows 7
Whiteboard: stalebug

Description Martin Aeschlimann CLA 2010-07-06 03:19:37 EDT
3.6

After reaching a breakpoint, I expand a node in the variables view: a new empty line is added.
- It can take up to a minute to populate.
- The details view already shows the content.
- No progress information, no possibility to cancel
- When I continue to run the program before the results are show, this results in strange error messages later.

I get this almost every time when debugging, making it very hard to use the debugger.

I have not heard other reports of this. Does it happen when using other JREs? Do you have 64 bit hardware? 32 bit VM? (I have heard of issues where a 32 bit VM was not performing well on 64 bit hardware).

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
