Bug 318326

Summary: [Help] Help app should have distinctive Help icon
Product: [Eclipse Project] Platform Reporter: Alex Blewitt <alex.blewitt>
Component: User AssistanceAssignee: platform-ua-inbox <platform-ua-inbox>
Status: CLOSED WONTFIX QA Contact:
Severity: trivial
Priority: P3 CC: cgold, prakash
Version: 3.6
Target Milestone: ---
Hardware: All
OS: All
Whiteboard: stalebug

Description Alex Blewitt CLA 2010-06-29 09:59:35 EDT
Build Identifier:

When opening a Help application, the same Eclipse icon is shown in the taskbar and in the fast application switchers (alt tab/cmd tab). It would be great if this opened with a more distinctive help icon - like an Eclipse icon with a (?) in the middle of it, so that it can be easily distinguished from the other applications running at the time.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Help -> Help Contents
2. See newly-launched Help browser uses same Eclipse application

Not sure why but it defaulted to 3.3 when I filed it ...

Moving to UA

The Icon used for help will be the same one as for the product launching help, in the case of the Eclipse SDK that is the Eclipse logo but for an Eclipse based product it will use the icon defined by that product. I think this is better than using a separate icon for help because if you have two Eclipse products running and one has help open you can tell which product the help belongs to.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
