It is difficult to determine how new lines and whitespace contribute to the output.

Suggest:

Add new line and whitespace markers, and use a pale ? grey background for _every_ character that contributes to the text output.

This patch will add a new action in the toolbar that will show all the whitespace that will be generated.

Patch v2.0

New version of the patch with a better detection of the whitespace characters that need to be displayed. Raw version of the patch. It can have a significant impact on the performances of the editor when active.
