Currently the p2 ant tasks require an Eclipse environment to be available in order to function. This introduces unnecessary complexity when adding a p2 publish step into an existing ant build.

The Virgo project would like to publish its built artefacts in a p2 repository but the additional complexity introduced is simply too much and we will use ivy until this bug is fixed.

Fixing this bug should also enable p2 to be adopted more readily by other ant-based projects.

All the p2 ant tasks relies on pieces of p2 which itself relies on OSGi. I don't see this being addressed any time soon, unless we eventually get to run on OSGi lite.
Closing as wontfix for now.
