Selecting a single file allows you Compare With -> History to see the history of that file, and what revisions it was changed in.

However, if you select a folder, you don't see the history of all resources in that project - or even, what the repository log looks like.

Note that also you can also select multiple files, and do Compare With -> History, and it also shows just the first one.

This, like bug 327077, is a pretty key usability enhancement.  As these are core workflow issues needed by all egit users, IMHO they're key to wider adoption of egit and traction of git in eclipse.
