Description Steve Mandl CLA 2010-05-26 16:06:53 EDT
Build Identifier: Build id: 20100218-1602

I am writing a java source. After doing various things with a local variable 'labor', I try to type labor.getString(). Just after typing the 's' in getString, eclipse disappears and an hs_err_pid****.log file appears in the c:\eclipse folder. This is 100% repeatable, but it only happens in this source file, in this instance of eclipse, and with this local variable. Any unsaved changes in eclipse are lost.

Reproducible: Always

I think you want bug 283503.

There is a patch in bug 283503. Can I apply that patch? I don't know how to apply a patch and incorporate it into my eclipse deployment. If you could point me to instructions I would be grateful.

The easy thing to do is to update to a version of eclipse that already includes the fix. bug 283503 was fixed in 20100426, anything newer than that should be fine. Try 3.6 RC2.
